For Your Eyes Only – Warwick Castle Lifts The Lid On The Ultimate Party

23 April 2010

The Royal WeekendParty, Warwick Castle’s longest running attractions has undergone a revamp to bringto life the forbidden passions, drunken debauchery and royal bed-hopping of themost scandalous periods in the Castle’s history.

The new experiencetransports guests back to June 1898 and to the weekend party of the MarlboroughHouse Set, and sets to unravel the sex, scandal and secrets of the Victorianelite, hosted by Castle beauty, Daisy,Countess of Warwick, who, it would seem, isn’t as pure as her alabasterskin would indicate.

Guests will beintroduced to the party by Warwick Castle’s chief butler and will meet LadyCurzon, a fellow guest and good friend to the Countess. Visitors will then tourthe private chambers of the Prince of Wales and sees Daisy’s own quarters, where she changed into her most provocative outfits designed to seduced herlovers. The Castle’s loose-lipped servants are dotted around thehouse, spilling the beans on all the scandals of the day.

The new tour aims to uncover thetruth on Victorian aristocratic life and is based on true accounts andhistorical facts recorded at the time, included Daisy’s own personal diary.

Sue Kemp, general manager of Warwick Castle, said: “People think of theVictorians as prim and proper but amongst the aristocracy at least, nothingcould have been further from the truth.  On the surface, their “genteel”weekend parties were drug and alcohol fuelled sessions with adulteryrife.

“People will be shocked by whatthey see and hear – but we are merely reporting historical fact based onreports that have emerged over more recent years.”

Thenew Royal Weekend Party – Secret Lives attraction is now open.
