School Tours
Duration: 30 minutes.
Our tours are the perfect bite-sized chunk for children and are lead by one of our inspirational costumed guides.
They can focus on either the Castle or the House - the Castle tour looks at the medieval aspect to life, including the Kingmaker attraction and Great Hall – whilst the House tour concentrates on the later, Victorian aspects such as the Great Hall, State rooms and Royal Weekend Party.
Explore the Castle and see what opportunities we have to offer your school on a visit. It is a chance to discover that the Castle can do more than just history!
Tours are £2.00 per person with a minimum group size of 10 people.

School Talks
Pupils will be treated to a presentation from the Master of the Trebuchet who will explain the preparation and operation of the machine. And, after listening to fascinating siege stories, pupils will witness for themselves the jaw-dropping spectacle of the trebuchet in action!*
Bird of Prey talks are also available. Meet our Falconer and let your pupils get close to magnificent birds of prey. They will learn about the natural environments of these birds, the differences between species and (dependant on what birds are on display) their original use at the Castle.**
*The trebuchet will be launched twice daily as part of a public show.

Special School Events
National Science and Engineering Week 15th – 19th March
See a different side to Britain’s Ultimate castle and dedicate a trip to discovering what science and engineering lessons can be learned from our medieval forefathers. Concentrating on the Mill and Engine House as well as the Trebuchet – designed to inject enjoyment and adventure into a classroom-based subject.
History LIVE Week 17th – 21st May
We’re looking forward to a fabulous week of interactive history – why not come and join us? You can spend the morning getting immersed in all aspects of medieval living. Your pupils can become train as an army through Bill Drill, visit our Barber Surgeon, learn about herbs and explore the instruments of torture with our costumed characters and activities. Then use the afternoon to explore the rest of the Castle.

Teacher Taster Weekend 22nd & 23rd May
